We had so much fun at Mental Toughness! This course was for athletes and performers ages 14-25 and took place during Eagle U. If you have not had the pleasure of attending, please contact Richelle at Eagle U for more details. http://www.eagleu.com/ or success@eagleu.com - you can also email Heather Sumlin at heather@mentalmanagement.com.

The first thing we did was identify what the students wanted to learn. We had 16 students in the class competing in a variety of activities: Soccer, Track, Boxing, Tennis, Football, Basketball, Dance, Pageantry, Volleyball, Softball and music. Here is a list of what they wanted to learn during their 3 days with Mental Management instructors Lanny Bassham, Troy Bassham & Heather Sumlin:

  • How to obtain a Mental Advantage over Competition

  • Controlling Nerves & Pressure

  • How to enter performance with confidence

  • Controlling the negative

  • Staying positive

  • Gamesmanship – how to handle

  • Mental System (focus)

  • Second Guessing – Comparing Self to Others

  • Blocking Physical Pain

  • Dealing with Discouragement

  • Staying Consistent

  • Fear Control

  • Distraction Control

  • How to deal with Negative People

  • Transferring Practice to Competition

  • Learning from Mistakes

  • Who to listen to and who to shut out

  • Over-trying

  • Mental Energy

We spent our time going over the answers to these questions, we also had the students apply what they learned in a competition - BagGo competition. We split the class into groups to help with the application portion of the session and were able to give the pageant competitors different advice than the sport competitors to keep the students engaged and able to learn what they needed to know for their particular activity.

Testimonials from Mental Toughness:

“The point of focus part of the mental program worked amazingly the first time I used it. Blocking out my competitors and focusing me on not only the moment but also on the process where everything fell together. One good shot just led to the next.” - Justin from Arlington, VA (Boxing)

“Mental Toughness has changed my life. I did not expect to walk away with this much useful information that I will incorporate into my life. Lanny Bassham is an inspiration to anyone competing. He truly cares about helping young individuals achieve their goals no matter what the sport is. Thank you very much for this eye opening experience.” - Ashleigh from Rockville, MD (Pageantry)

“This course will help anyone and everyone. To be honest, I think this was more helpful than the hundreds of hours I have invested in physical training.” - Jackson (Track, Long Distance Running)

“It was amazing and it completely changed the way I mentally approach challenges.” - Bailey from Norman, OK (Pageantry and Dance)

“I thought I had a pretty good idea of how to be mentally tough, but there were so many aspects that I didn’t know or didn’t think would work that actually affected me for the better.” - Brandon from Plano, TX (Tennis)

“Mental Toughness is amazing! In a few days I got the opportunity to be in the presence of Lanny and learn his approach on mentally preparing yourself for anything in life. I learned so much more in that short amount of time than in the 3 years I went to college. If you have not been to Mental Toughness, I highly recommend you go. It will help you and it give you an edge over everyone else. I loved it!!” - Christina from Cransten, RI (Pageantry)

“I never thought there was a way to control your performance, practice and mind mentally. After the Mental Management program I now know what it takes to be a successful positive and tenacious performer and competitor. Not only can Mental Toughness (Management) be used in competitions but also in everyday life to make you the best person you can possibly be.” - Faran from Oak Brook, IL (Dance)

"Before Mental Toughness I has wishes. After this training I learned how to develop a six-year plan of success for my life. I am ready to live a complete life by getting what I want.” - Becca from Midland, TX (Pageantry)

“People often make goals for themselves, but only truly passionate people know how to accomplish them. Mr. Bassham’s program uses his expertise and highly understandable methods to make even the most disheartened player learn how to achieve his or her own dreams. Thank you for a great and life-changing program!” - Hannah from Oak Brook, IL (Sports)

“Mental Toughness has prepared me for my competition and every aspect of my life. These tools will stick with me throughout the rest of my life and I know whatever I am competing in, I will perform like a winner.” - Sydney from Middlesex, VT (Pageantry

“This course will help every sports player get to the next level.” - Stan from Oak Brook, IL (Football and Track)

Eagle U Mental Toughness

We are constantly competing in life for grades, a better job, a spot on the team, a scholarship for college. Like it or not we are competing while we are on this earth. We’d better know a thing or two about pressure and mental control if we are going to be successful in those competitions life throws us.

Eagle U has a program for all of the competitors out there who need the mental edge. It’s called Mental Toughness. Do you have to compete in sports to get something out of this Mental Toughness program – No! Many of you may compete in pageants, stage performance, music, drama, scholastic achievement, debate, etc. Everything you will learn will apply to these forms of competition as well as athletic competition.

Lanny Bassham was the best loser in the world. He was a silver medalist in the Olympic Games. That is the best you can do and still lose! Who gets all the credit and all the glory – the winner does! Just ask the First Runner Up to Miss USA or Miss America if it matters who wins. Lanny was frustrated because his goal was to win the gold medal but in competition at the Olympic Games he choked. He didn’t choke because of bad equipment or poor training. He choked because the Olympic Games brings a great deal of pressure to the competitors and he didn’t know how to handle it. He lost due to a mental failure which could have been prevented.

After researching winners for the next couple of years he compiled his information in to a system he calls Mental Management. Mental Management is the process of improving the probability of having a consistent mental performance under pressure, on demand. He used that system to dominate his sport of Olympic Rifle bringing home 15 medals at the World Championships his next time out. 2 years later he brought home the gold medal he had dreamed about since childhood. Today Lanny Bassham is teaching that system to people like you, dreamers, achievers and competitors in sport, business, stage performance and life goals.

Eagle U offers a chance for you to spend hours learning this system with Lanny Bassham himself through their Mental Toughness Program. What an amazing opportunity! Call today for more information 1-888-7-EAGLE-U.

For more information on Lanny Bassham and his company Mental Management Systems please go to www.mentalmanagement.com. On his website he has a free monthly email newsletter which includes articles on mental control.

Eagle U Team Leader's Company Launches "Play the News"

Eagle U Team Leader Patrick Bannan is the designer and artist for Impact Games, a world renowned pioneer in creating compelling interactive experiences around current events. His company recently launched Play the News, an engaging, community-driven experience - imagine fantasy sports meets the evening news. Play the News is a web-based platform that brings interactive gaming elements to the online news-media industry changing the paradigm of news consumption from passive reading to active engagement.

What that means is this:
Every day the talented team at Impact Games combs the headlines looking for the very best 'current events' to turn into short games that anyone can play, from anywhere, for fun or information, and it's all completely free.

The cool thing about these news games is that they actually put you in the shoes of the people making the decisions, allowing you to both “voice your opinion” (what SHOULD happen) and “predict the future” (what WILL happen), creating an experience totally unique to any newspaper you've read, or broadcast you've watched. All of that gets wrapped into your own socio-political profile where you can track your rank and score, and debate with the community about the whys and the hows of major world issues.

This is very much ‘the beginning’ in the grander scheme of things, and they have already received a very strong response from their community and major media companies alike who see the potential in this type of engagement. Make sure to check it out NOW at http://PlayTheNewsGame.com

Congratulations to Eagle U grad Amanda Kimmel for making it to the final 2 in Survivor: Micronesia, Fans vs. Favorites! Amanda won the last immunity challenge, giving her the choice of who to take with her to the Final Tribal Council. She played an awesome game, and we are so proud of her! Jeffrey Probst, the host of Survivor commented that, "Amanda knows how to play Survivor. She knows how to build an alliance, how long to keep it, when to get rid of it. She's very good at looking at odds, she's very good at assessing if [she's] better of against this person or with this person."

Amanda currently has the distinction of participating the most days of any castaway with 78 days known to date. She is the first person since Jenna Morasca to play the game twice and never be voted out, the first to do so without quitting the game, as well as the first player to win two Final Immunity challenges and the first player to ever face the jury twice. Eagle U Grad Proves to be Quite a Survivor!

Eagle U grad Amanda Kimmel is proving to be quite a Survivor! On last night's episode, she was targeted as the biggest threat in the final Tribal Council. When it came time to vote, all eyes were on Amanda. Before the votes were read, and to everyone's surprise, Amanda pulled out the Hidden Immunity Idol she had uncovered earlier. In the Community

Eagle U will be at the Drug & Gang Prevention Education Conference in Dallas, Texas this Saturday, April 5th. This conference is being hosted by Ferguson Road Initiative, Dallas Independent School District and the United States Department of Justice. The purpose of the conference is to educate parents and provide them the tools necessary to help protect and prevent their children from drug use and/or gang enlistment. Eagle U's attendance at this conference will be to provide support for the community and an alternative for parents who are seeking ways to keep their kids on the right track.

The mission of Eagle U is to expose students to an environment that allows them to realize their strengths and learn to use them in a way that will nurture their development, giving them a seven-year career head start.

Teen Athletes Gain an Edge Over the Competition

Eagle U Partners with Olympic Gold Medalist to Offer a Unique Program

“It doesn’t matter if you win or lose . . . until you lose.” This is the philosophy of Olympic gold medalist, Lanny Bassham, founder of Mental Management® Systems. After winning the silver medal at the Munich Olympic Games in 1972, Lanny went on a pursuit to find out what it would take to win the gold. What he learned was that most competitors don’t train for their mental game. Bassham developed a system of mental training called Mental Management®. Using this system, he dominated his sport of rifle shooting over the next six years, winning 22 world individual and team titles, setting four world records and winning the Olympic gold medal in Montreal in 1976. Lanny Bassham ranks third among all shooting athletes and is a member of the Olympic Hall of Fame.

In every sport, whether team or individual, there is a mental game. One’s success and ability to perform under pressure is exponentially improved by mental performance training. Strength, talent, and innate ability are only one part of the equation for peak performance. To be a champion, you must train like a champion. If you’re not working on your mental game, you’re training for 2nd place.

Lanny Bassham shares his secrets to success and how to have peak performance under pressure with high school and college students at the Eagle U Mental Toughness program in Denton, TX July 21-26, 2008. This is an incredible opportunity for young competitors to learn the Mental Management® System that Lanny Bassham has used to train thousands of professional and Olympic athletes. For more information about this or other Eagle U programs, please call 1-888-732-4538 or visit our website at http://www.eagleu.com.

For over 15 years, Eagle U has helped teens discover themselves and their true potential. From hands-on team exercises to interviewing influential people in the community, students are challenged to rise above mediocrity and discover their unique talents, abilities, passions, and their own initiative. Students leave Eagle U motivated to achieve their highest aspirations and with the self-confidence to open the doors of opportunity.
